10 gram Gold Bars are one of the most produced precious metal items outside of government minted gold bullion coins. They are produced by most of the world’s most prominent mints, including the Perth Mint and Royal Mint in the UK. Of the most popular weights and products for gold bars, it is mid-range, with 0.3g being the smallest and 1kg the largest. While there are products that and surpass these weights at either end of the scale, they are produced in far smaller numbers.

There are many different types of gold bars to choose from, which often simply relate to the method of production. For example, cast gold bars are created by pouring liquid gold into a mould until they harden. They often appear slightly malformed, which has the advantage of making them easier to identify. Cast gold bars instead are easier to produce and therefore cheaper to buy. They appear smooth and uniformed.

The largest gold bar ever produced was manufactured by a subsidiary of Mitsubishi in 2005. It weighs an astonishing 250kg and measures 45.5cm, at its base, by 22.5cm. It is 17cm high and narrows at a 5 degree angle to its top. It was last valued in 2010 when it was said to be worth more than $10m.

Gold bars in general are more prone to forgery and as such should only be purchased from a trusted vendor. This becomes all the more important for bars under 250g as they rarely feature the same high degree of security features as those over this weight. Goldinvestments.co.uk is one of the oldest gold vendors in the UK and we are happy to dispense expert advice from our office in the heart of London.
